You will have a chance to see Kostroma’s set of stalls, which is one of the largest commercial centers of Russia of the end of XVIII – beginning of XIX century, remaining till our days. It was being formed for several decades, from the late XVIII century till 1830s and consists of more than ten buildings of different styles, located on the main square and on the way down from the square to the Volga River. Among these buildings one can find Red and Big flour trade rows, Gingerbread, Tobacco, Batter stalls, Church of the Savior in the Red rows, Moscow Gate, Public offices. In the city centre the following places of interest are situated: Guardhouse, Fire Tower (which is one of the main landmarks of the city), the House of General Borshchov (participant of the Patriotic War of 1812.) Kostroma Historical and Architectural Museum, the House of Tretyakov, monuments to Ivan Susanin, Vladimir Lenin and Yuri Dolgorukiy.

Ipatiev Monastery - Founded at the beginning of the XIV century in honor of the Holy Trinity and in the name of St. Hypatios of Gangara, the monastery is rightfully considered one of the oldest in Russia.

In 1613 the monastery concealed a young Mikhail Romanov within its walls. The glorious three hundred year reign of the House of Romanovs began in the holy monastery. Since that moment, the monastery received its name - the "cradle" of the House of Romanovs.
