2020 launch of unique expedition cruises in Siberia

After two years of research, planning and preparation and the small task of transporting 4,000 miles (by water) one of our ships from the Volga River to Krasnoyarsk. On July 16th, 2020 Vodohod launched the first expedition river cruise down the Yenisei river, through the heart of Siberia. The maiden voyage was a 5-day introduction to the region and included stops in Krasnoyarsk - Yeniseisk - Galanino - Krasnoyarsk.
The newly custom designed 5-star “Maxim Gorky” catering for only 100 lucky travellers has been specially designed to reflect the culture, people and history of the Siberian region. There is also an emphasis on local Siberian food and drinks – ensuring an authentic unforgettable Siberian experience.
Given the nature of the fast-flowing river and the lack of traditional infrastructure we needed to create a hybrid expedition/river vessel so that wet water landings were possible in the most remote locations. In addition, a dedicated expedition cruise team is onboard to introduce, explain and immerse guests in the destinations, the local culture and traditions of Siberia.
In addition, a dedicated cultural and educational program of documentaries has been curated so when passengers when not enjoying the amazing views of Siberian scenery, they can learn about the history and traditions of this territory. The program includes newsreels from the film fund "Yenisei Kino", which captured the 100-year history of the development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The screening also includes films made by the “Yenisei Kino” and "Krasnoyarsk Documentary Films" teams.
Vodohod’s mission is to showcase the undiscovered rivers of Russia to the world. The Yenisei trip is the first in a series of unique water- based experiences that Vodohod will pioneer over the coming years. Put simply: you will not find an expedition cruise along the Yenisei river being offered anywhere else on the market.
Our favourite feedback from one of our Russian guests this summer was short, but we hope says it all: when asked about his experience he replied: Wow! Wow we will take anytime!
